pottery as unique as you are.
Our story
I began taking pottery with my wife when we moved from Brooklyn, NY to the Pacific Northwest almost 8 years ago. What started as a couple date slowly became a hobby and a way to release and process.
Pine and Willow is a love song for my sister, Patrice zāl. She was an artist whose mediums extended from spoken word to prose, to sculpture, to paint, to ceramics. When she passed away, I believe a bit of her artistic spirit was transferred to me. I make each piece of pottery with intentional slowness. While my pottery journey began with wheel throwing, in motherhood I began to work more with handbuilding. I appreciate that hand-building allows you to speak to the clay in a more intimately. I appreciate that the pieces, while the same, all have their own vibe, spirit, and feel. I love that you can see the imprint of my rings, fingers, and nails.
Making pottery in this way has been a meditation in parenthood and in life - we are not perfect, nor are we meant to be. The beauty is in the uniqueness and the imperfections.
I live in a state filled with evergreen pines, her favorite tree was a willow - This is Pine and Willow Pottery.
